U.S. Congressman. He attended the Axline Seminary Iowa, and then taught school in central and western Iowa. He studied law at Sheldon, Iowa, relocated to Wayne Nebraska, where he engaged in the hardware business and in banking. He was clerk of Wayne County, Nebraska, (1884-1886), moved to Sioux City, Iowa, in 1897 and became a livestock commission merchant. In 1915, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-fourth Congress, serving until 1917. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed business as a livestock commission merchant until his death.
