William Steele. - After an illness of several years' duration, William Steele passed away Thursday afternoon at his home four miles west of here. He was conscious to the last and calmly spoke of the presence of death. He was surrounded by his wife and seven children when the end came. Mr. Steele was born at Indian Reserve, Indiana, October 20, 1850. His parents moved to Illinois when he was quite small, and in 1864 they came to Iowa. April 7, 1870, he was united in marriage with Mary E. Huddleston, who survives him. Five sons and two daughters were born to the union, as follows: Mrs. James Linder of Linby; Rolla Steels, Wagner, S. D.; Mrs. Ella Beem, Randall, S. D.; Lee Steele, Farson, Iowa; John Otto and Frank live on farms west of here.
The funeral was held at the home at 10 a. m. Sunday. Rev. Walker had charge of the funeral services.
Mr. Steele became a member of the Baptist church when a youth of sixteen and lived and died in that faith. His presence will be greatly missed among his neighbors and friends, whom he was ever rady to assist when sickness or trouble came. At the conclusion of the funeral services at the home the body was taken to Packwood cemetery and laid to res. Sunday, the day of his burial, would have been his sixty-second birthday. -Contributed.
