Feb 28, 1895 - Isaac Harris, of Union township, died at his home Wednesday from the result of a paralytic stroke which took him down a few days ago. The funeral will be held Friday at 2:30 p. m.
The deceased was one of the pioneers of Carroll county. He was born in Ohio in 1824 and was one of a family of fourteen. In 1856 he moved to Iowa in wagons. The trip took thirty-one days aud he landed in Dallas county, and the next spring settled in Carroll county on the farm where he resided ever since. He was one of the very few of the first settlers in this county who struggled with trials and priviations of pioneer life.
The old settlers who first took homesteads in this county are fast dying off and it will only be a few years more until the laat of them will have passed to join the great majority who have gone before. Mr. Harris was one of the few early settlers who remained on the farm and never sought political honors, although he has filled the position of supervisor and many minor offices, he never had a political ambition to satisfy. Those who have known him will bear testimony to his sterling qualities and rigid attendance to principles.

April 18, 1856, Mr. and Mrs. Harris started from Ohio for their Western home, and after a journey of thirty-one and a half days, landed in Dallas County, IA, and the following January moved to Carroll County and settled on the farm where they now (in 1887) live. They are among the few of the pioneers of the county who are left to recount the trials and privations of the early day.
They have had nine children. Two died in infancy and one after reaching maturity. Those living are: Samuel, Lyman, Arista, Lincoln, Frank and Oliver.
