Old-Timer Gone -
Simon Harris, Former Fullertonian, Dies in North Dakota and is Buried Here Friday -

Friday afternoon scores of the old-time Fullerton friends of Simon Harris assembled at the depot and escorted his remains, recently shipped from his home in Bismarck, N. D., to the Riverview cemetery, where they were laid to rest with appropriate ceremonies. Mr. Lyman Harris, of Menoken, the same state, a brother of the deceased and also an old Fullerton resident, accompanied the body.

The history of Fullerton and Nance county is pretty closely connected with the lives of the Harris brothers, four of whom made this city their home for many years, and Simon, probably, was as well known in this community as any business man ever residing in this city. His death brought real sorrow to his many friends here and the suddenness of his passing was a distinct shock.

The Bismarck Tribune contains an account of his life which we are reprinting as follows:

"Simon Harris, one of the Bismarck's best known citizens, died yesterday morning at six o'clock, of acute gall stones. His death is a surprise and a shock to his friends, who had supposed him to be in good health. He was up and around only a short time before his death.

The funeral will be held at the residence of his brother, Frank Harris, 607 Sixth street, at three o'clock this afternoon. The body will be taken to Fullerton, Nebr., his former home.

He leaves four brothers, two of them, Frank and Arista, being residents of Bismarck, Lyman Harris lives at Burleigh and Oliver in Champaign, Ill. The deceased leaves no immediate family, his wife having passed away a number of
years ago and his daughters, Iola, age 21, died 16 years ago last June, and Claudia, age 10, will have been dead 21 years in October.

Mr. Harris has been for 12 years passed engaged in the real estate business in Bismarck. He was instrumental in securing a large number of settlers for this region, probably doing as much or more in the way of colonization for this county than any other man.

He was born August 13, 1852 at Gilboa, Ohio. The family moved in 1857 to Iowa, and he went to Fullerton, Nebr., in 1885, coming here in 1902. He was in the land business in Fullerton previous to coming here. His chief interest was in his business and he seldom digressed from it for any outside interest, though he was chief inspector of customs at St. Fuegas, Cuba, during the Spanish-American war. He was very well known in this part of the state and his presence will be greatly missed."

Mr. Harris spent his winters in Omaha where he had business connections with George D. Meiklejohn. The remains were met at the station and taken in charge by the K.P. order and carried directly to the cemetery where brief funeral
services were held.
