PVT, Co. B, 1st Nebraska Infantry, Spanish American War.

From a 1915 Nance County, Nebraska, newspaper clipping file, transcribed by Linda Berney:

Word has been received of the sudden death of Mr. Oliver Harris, who passed away Sept. 23rd at Champaign, Ill., at the age of 41 years. Mr. Harris was at one time a teacher in our public school and as a young man lived here, also after his marriage.

He was a member of Company B and went to Manila with the boys from here.

This is the third death among the Harris boys within a year. He has one brother who survives him, Mr. Frank Harris, whose health is very poor and he expects to go west for his health very soon.

Mrs. J F. Johnson received a letter from her sister, Mrs. Ris Harris of Bismark, S. D. telling of the death of Oliver Harris, which occurred at his home in Champaign, Ill. last week after a brief illness of paralysis of the intestines.

He leaves a wife and children to mourn his loss. Old timers will remember when the five Harris brothers lived in Fullerton where they were engaged in the real estate business.

Three of them, Simon, Arista and Oliver have passed away during the past year, leaving Lyman and Frank, who live in the Dakotas. Fullerton friends will be greatly shocked and grieved to learn of the untimely death of Oliver Harris.
