V. G. Self, 97 years old, probably the oldest man in eastern Oklahoma, died at the house of his son, R. L. Self, here yesterday afternoon. He had been living in and near Poteau for many years, and was well liked by every one who knew him. He was an ex-Confederate soldier and a member of the Methodist church, and while he had become very feeble, he was a regular attendant at his church.

He is survived by three sons, R. L. and J. L. Self, both of Poteau, and Tom Self of Atwood, and three daughters.

The remains will be laid to rest in the Monroe cemetery this afternoon.
