Funeral services for Betty Jo Baker, 78, of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Chris Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Longworth Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Baker died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 21, 1931, in Longworth, TX. She married Robert Baker on June 25, 1948, in Longworth. She lived in the community most of her life and was a member of Highland Heights United Methodist Church. She attended school at Longworth until 11th grade and then went to Newman High School in Sweetwater where she graduated.
Baker attended Cisco Junior College and received her nursing home administrators degree in 1971 and was administrator at Leisure Lodge Nursing Home in Sweetwater for eight years. She then worked for Texas National Bank for eight years as a proof operator and then eight years for First Financial Bank.
Survivors include her daughter, Deby Brite and husband Gary of Phoenix, Ariz.; sons, Daniel Gordon Baker and wife Pat of Coleman and Donald Lavern Baker and wife Tammye of Sweetwater; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one brother, William Edward Cardwell of Sandusky, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 15, 2000; and her parents, Silas and Lillie Cardwell.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Larry McEachern, Rusty Allen, Doug Taylor, Don Hatter, John Meadows and Teddy Kral.
Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Scherwitz, Randall Hayes and Tommy Ed Hale.
