Silas Cardwell

Sweetwater - Silas Laverne Cardwell, 90, a resident of Nolan and Fisher Counties since 1903, died about 4 a.m. Friday in Simmons Memorial Hospital.

Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Longworth United Methodist Church with burial in Longworth Cemetery under direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.

He was born Dec. 1882 in Tennessee and was married to Lillie Ragan on Feb. 2, 1924 in Roby. He was a retired farmer and member of the Longworth Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, William Cardwell of Sandusky, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Baker of Sweetwater; four sisters, Mrs. Bessie Walker, Mrs. Hope Broke and Mrs. Charity Lawson, all of Sweetwater, and Mrs. Faith Davis of Roby; and eight grandchildren.
