On 3 May 1927, Carrie Lou Reynolds married Alexander Stephens Mitchell (1896-1983), called Stephens, a prominent Atlanta lawyer and historian. He was a son of Eugene Muse Mitchell (1866-1944) and his wife Mary Isabel "Maybelle" Stephens (1872-1919) and brother of Margaret Mitchell (1900-1949) who wrote "Gone with the Wind."
In the first year of her marriage, Carrie Lou suffered a miscarriage; but was able to have two sons later: Eugene Muse Mitchell (1931-2007) and Joseph Reynolds Mitchell.
Carrie Lou and her husband and sons were members of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atlanta.
