He was an artist. Born in Augusta, he moved to Atlanta at age 13 with his parents. He went on to study at the Art Students League in New York City. He instructed combat pilots during World War II. Afterwards, he returned to the Augusta area for a time, but moved back to Atlanta in 1950. He remained there the rest of his life.
He painted more than four hundred fifty works, with most being portraits. His subjects included the Georgia governor George W. Townes, Hamilton Douglas, the founder of the Atlanta Law School as well as other noteworthy persons of the area. He also painted Margaret Mitchell, author of Gone With The Wind. Her brother, Stephen Mitchell, was his brother-in-law.
He married Margueryte Scott of Atlanta in 1937.
Funeral arrangements were handled by H.M. Patterson & Son at Spring Hill.
