David Pressly Alston was the son of Grey Sills Alston and Elizabeth Muse Alston in Starkville, Oktibbeha County, Mississippi. He was named for Rev. David Pressly, who along with his great-grandmother, Elizabeth Bell McKell and other relatives started the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church (circa 1840) in Starkville.

David was married to Margaret Nelson (Nell) Case, daughter of Hallock H. and Blanche (Osenton) Case from Mobile, Alabama. David and his parents moved to Mobile, just a few years earlier. David and Nell had three daughters, Bertha Pressly, Elizabeth Osenton and Leila Mary.

David Pressly Alston lived the remainder part of his life in Mobile, Alabama and died December 20th 1945. He is buried at Pine Crest Cemetery next to his wife and daughters, Bertha and Elizabeth.
