Musa D. Alston was the daughter of Grey Sills Alston and Elizabeth Muse Alston in Starkville, Oktibbeha County, Mississippi. She was named Musa after her mother's maiden name and the name her grandfather Muse started calling her at birth. I am told she had the Muse features, which include dark raven black hair.
Musa attended Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi from 1895 through 1900; where she received a degree in Education.
Musa never married; but she taught many of the children in rural Oktibbeha County at Forest Hills School from the early 1900's until her death in 1933. There is a wonderful photograph of Musa Alston with her students, taken in front of the school, circa 1903.
Musa Alston is buried in the Alston Family plot alongside her parents.
