As a young man, Parke received his education at local schools in preparation of going to The Agricultural and Mechanical College (now known as Mississippi State) in Starkville. There he received a degree in Industrial Science, graduating in 1913.
Parke married Nellie Walton of Hinds County, Mississippi in 1914. They soon moved to Chicago, where Parke was working for the Illinois Central Railway; a job he would continue to do until retirement. It was here in Chicago that Parke and Nellie's first child was born; Dorothy Elizabeth. Parke requested a transfer to be closer to his parents and moved back to Starkville in the early part of 1918. Here their family continued to grow with the birth of two sons and another daughter.
On September 8th 1925, Parke Alston was appointed U.S. Postmaster of Clover Hill in Coahoma County, Mississippi; ending in 1931.
In the mid 1930's, Parke and Nellie moved to Edwards, Mississippi. It was here that they lived the rest of their lives, Parke departing his life on the 27th of June 1970 at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 21 days. Parke was laid to rest in Edwards Cemetery in the city he called home for over 35 years.
