Velma Brown, 80, died at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, May 2, 2010, in a local care center.
She was a native of Vinton and was a member of Welsh Memorial United Methodist Church. Velma was a member of the American Legion Auxiliarry and the Eastern Star. She was an avid supporter of Vinton High School Athletics.
Survivors include her children Dexter Brown of Vinton, Jeanie Brown and her husband Randy Cox of Little Rock, AR, Jackie Brown of Vinton, Pete Brown and his wife Terri of Sulphur, Maureen Brown of Vinton, Glenn Brown and his wife Rachael of Sulphur, and Claudia Ginty and her husband Sean of Slough, England; foster daughter Ada Lou Broussard and her husband Johnny of Vinton; sisters Doris Polk and Sarah LeJeune, both of Vinton; brother Clayton Cormier and his wife Bernice of Vinton; sister-in-law Cleta Cormier of Vinton; and grandchildren Corey, Casey, Jacob, Paula and Devon Brown, and Miriam Cox.
She is preceded in death by her husband Dexter Myrl Brown; parents Jackson and Lula Cormier; grandson Captain Aaron David Cox, USMC; and her brothers June Cormier, Paul Cormier and Gerald Cormier.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Welsh Memorial United Methodist Church, 1100 1/2 Horrige St, Vinton, LA 70668.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 6, in Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton. The Rev. Kathy Fitzhugh will officiate. Burial will be in Granger Cemetery in Vinton. Visitation will be 3-9 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
