Doris Elaine Cormier Polk, 86, died at 1:43 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012, in a local hospital.

Doris was a Vinton native and attended the Church of Christ in Westlake. She was the Salutorian for the Vinton High School Class of 1943. She loved to crochet and do the newspaper crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her daughter Jo Elaine Payne and her husband Ashton, of Vinton; son William Thomas Polk, of Conroe, Texas; sister, Sarah LeJune; brother Clayton Gayle Cormier and his wife Bernice; grandchildren, Niki Polk and her husband Whitney, Nigel Payne, Brandon Payne and his wife Dena, and Ashley Payne; and 3 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Tommy Joe Polk; parents, Jackson and Lula Cormier, brothers, June Cormier, Paul Cormier and Gerald Cormier; and sister Velma Brown.

The family wishes to extend thanks to the staff of Christus St. Patrick Hospital and West Calcasieu Cameron Home Health.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30, in Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton. The Rev. Dan Everett will officiate. Burial will be in Granger Cemetery in Vinton. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the funeral home.
