John Gilbert was the son of James Thomas and Mary Olive Chapel James. He grew up with several siblings. Born in Eagletown, they lived for a while in McCurtain County and later in Bryan County.
On 17 Nov 1930, Gibb married Arizona "Zonie" Todd in McCurtain Co. OK. They raised 2 boys and 2 girls and they are:

John Lonnie James 1935 – 1986
Joyce Marie James 1938 –
Geraldine James 1940 –
A hard working man, he would be very proud of all his fine grandchildren today. Zonie preceded Gibb in death by 26 years. They are buried here in Mill Creek with Zonie's parents and other family members.
