She was born August 18, 1931, in Rossville, a daughter of Alvis and Blanche Ingram Wallen. She married John "Jack" Alkire on February 25, 1950 at Rossville.
Along with her husband, she is survived by one daughter, two sons, five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and a niece.
Mrs. Alkire had worked in the Hoopeston Area High School cafeteria for 10-1/2 years, retiring in 1996. She was a member of the first Christian Church of Hoopeston.
Furneral services were held at Brown-Alkire Funeral Home with the Rev. Brooks Barrick officiating.
