"Prominent Man Summoned.
Word was received in St. Helena Wednesday that Fred A. Carrick had passed away in San Francisco. Mr. Carrick who was Pacific Coast manager of Volker & Co., dealers in linoleums and other floor coverings, suffered a breakdown several months ago and had been confined to his bed in a hospital in San Francisco for about two months. He had been prominent in business circles in the bay cities for many years and had been very successful. About two years ago Mr. Carrick purchased the firm Jay M. Salladay about twenty acres, formerly a part of the Edge property near St. Helena. He spent a great deal of time and money converting a large wine cellar on the place into an ideal country home and, with his family occupied it last summer and also week ends and holidays. The farming land was also being improved and it was Mr. Carrick's intention to retire within a few years and come to Napa valley to make his permanent home.
Deceased was a native of Oakland, California, aged 60 years. He is survived by his wife, Etta M. Carrick and three children - Elizabeth Cook, Irene and Maryetta Carrick."
