"S.F. Religious Leader Dies.
Elizabeth Hessinger Succumbs at 57.

Mrs. Elizabeth Carrick-Cook Hessinger, 57, member of a pioneer California family, died yesterday at her home, 1238 Francisco Street.

Mrs. Hessinger and her second husband, Jay Cook, founded the Absolute Science Center. Later she established a San Francisco branch of the Religious Science Institute and Church. She was a former vice president of the International New Thought Alliance.

She was a native of San Francisco. Her mother, Mrs. Etta Mendenhall Carrick, was a member of the Mendenhall family which came to California with the famed Donner party.

Her survivors include a husband, Gordon, and a son by her first marriage, Frederick C. Beckwith, of Sacramento.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Halsted and Co., 1123 Sutter Street."
