Former Brewster Orchardist Dies At Moses Lake

William Joseph McCormick, 82, of Moses Lake and pioneer resident of North Central Washington, died at his home Sunday following a brief illness. Born Dec. 1, 1866, at New Vernon, Penn., he grew to young manhood there and came to Douglas County in 1894, locating on East Foster Creek. In the Spring of 1895 he moved to near Winthrop where he took up homestead on Bear Creek. He resided there until 1908, when he moved to Brewster, where he developed an orchard tract and was an active community leader in Brewster for many years. He resided in Brewster for 40 years, moving to Moses Lake last August. Mr. McCormick was a member of the Congregational church at Brewster. He was married to Mamie Jones, a daughter of a pioneer Washington family on Dec. 17, 1902.

Surviving are his wife, two sons, William J. McCormick of Yakima and Lyle L. McCormick of Moses Lake; one daughter, Mrs. Maude Waters of San Francisco, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Nannie Gillespie of Brewster, and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held from the Jones and Jones chapel Thursday at 1 o'clock. Interment will be in the Waterville cemetery. Don Isenhart will sing with Mrs. Dan Wile at the organ.

Friends who may desire to send flowers are asked instead to donate to either the Brewster Community Hospital for the cancer fund.
