LAST RITES FOR JOHN L. McCORMICK

Funeral services for John L. McCormick were conducted Sunday afternoon, October 27th, at the Congregational Church in Brewster by the Columbia Masonic Lodge, of which he had been a member. Music was by Mrs. J. W. Geissler at the piano, and by a ladies quartet: Mesdames Loui N. Day, Hilliard Smith, George Wilson and Josephine Martin, who sang "Lead Kindly Light", Rock Of Ages", and "Nearer My God To Thee". Interment was at Riverside Park Cemetery in Spokane on Monday. Oriental Masonic Lodge No. 74 in charge.

Mr. McCormick was born February 10th, 1872 in New Vernon, Pennsylvania, and came to Douglas county in 1892, homesteading near Foster Creek. He received his business education in Spokane and served for a number of years as Auditor in Waterville, later moving to Wallace, Idaho where he spent 25 years. He was associated with the firm of James F. Hogarth, mining broker, and with the Gardner-Denver, Co., a mining concern. In 1905, Mr. McCormick was married to Mary Hogarth, who was a great-granddaughter of Gen. Isaac Shelby of Revolutionary War fame-the first governor of Kentucky. Her father James A Abbott, built the first railroad into Dennison, Texas, and her parents crossed the plains in 1852 by ox-train and helped blaze the Old Oregon Trail to The Dalles. Mrs. McCormick died in 1930.

Mr. McCormick made his home for the past four years in Brewster with his sister, Mrs. Nannie Gillespie, who survives, as do also one brother, W. J. McCormick, and a daughter, Greta McCormick, two nephews and three nieces.
