Melvin Ray Ake, age 68, passed away in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on June 9, 2009. He was born to Jewel (Humphries) and Melvin Nile Ake on April 28, 1941, in Oklahoma City.

He graduated from Capitol Hill High School, attended Rose State College, and then served in the U.S. Army. Melvin married Delores Lewis on April 6, 1960. He retired from Tinker Air Force Base and was a member of the Crossroads Cathedral Church in Oklahoma City. Melvin moved to Newcastle in 1973 from Oklahoma City and enjoyed serving as Santa Claus' helper for the Newcastle community and had done so for many years. He also liked to skydive and enjoyed cars.

Survivors include his wife Delores Ake of Newcastle; daughters, Katrina Boggs and her husband, Jerry, of Jenks, Oklahoma, Chris Malcolm of Moore, Oklahoma, Melania St. Onge and her husband, Dean, also of Moore; six grandchildren, Melany Langley, Jessica Boggs, Natasha Boggs, Melvin Malcom, Caleb Malcom, Kory Malcom; two great grandchildren; mother, Jewel Humphries of Oklahoma City; brothers, Fuzzy Ake and his wife, Janet, of Bethel, Dale Hays and his wife, Cathy, of Oklahoma City; sister, Janie Ake of Moore; plus nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Melvin was preceded in death by his father, brother, Ronnie, and sister, Beth.

Services were held Monday, June 15, 2009, at the Crossroads Cathedral Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Pastor Geary Bohanon officiated with interment held in the Blanchard, Oklahoma, Cemetery. Arrangements made by Eisenhour Funeral Home, Blanchard. Donation may be made to the American Heart Association.
