* The following story was written by Arthur's family for a Gaudet Family Reunion in Canada that was held in July of 2003.

Arthur, the eighth child of John Peter and Marie Sophie (Bernard) Gaudet, was born on a farm in Prince Edward Island March 4th, 1908. Arthur was the only child of his parents who lived his whole life in St. Edwards, P.E.I. Arthur met and fell in love with a local girl named Liza. They were married on February 27th, 1935. They raised two sons and six daughters who worshipped the ground he walked on because of his generosity, patience, love and devotion to all of them.

Arthur made his living at fishing. He was only in his teens when he began the trade. At age 65 he was honored at a banquet for being the man who had the longest record for serving the fishing industry from the Miminegash Harbor. From 1940 to 1960 Arthur was a member of the Miminegash Fisherman's co-op and served as a board member for six years. In 1969, he joined the Acadian Fisherman's co-op of Abrams Village. He served as a company director for three years.

In poor years during the winter months, Arthur worked in the lumber woods in New Brunswick. Sometimes he was away for five months at a time. During the war, Arthur and his brother Roland worked on the docks in Halifax. Arthur also worked a bit at carpentry. All his children have nice homes, which he helped to build. Arthur always enjoyed company and looked forward to the summer in anticipation of his relatives from away to drop by for a visit. Arthur had a great laugh that could be heard above everything else at a gathering. Arthur was a great husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to all.

On March 7th, 1987, Arthur died in Alberton, surrounded by all his family as he had always wished. He died as he had lived, loved and was admired by his wife and children.
