Ruth Evelyn Bloxham was born on July 29, 1920 on the Franklin Township, rural Postville, IA, farm of her parents, Charles "Haley" Wilson and Ruby Viola (Bray) Ewing Sr. She was baptized and confirmed at Forest Mills United Methodist Church. Ruth attended Forest Mills country school, Waukon High School and graduated from Postville High School. On July 29, 1939 she married Donald Vickery at the Forest Mills United Methodist Church. Donald died on June 5, 1945. On September 14, 1946 she married Keith Elton Bloxham at the Forest Mills United Methodist Church. Ruth worked for several years at the Kaveny's Gift Shop in Waukon. In 1956 she went to work as a Nurse's Aide at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, where she worked in several departments of nursing care. The Good Samaritan slogan is "In Christ's Love, Everyone is Someone." Ruth retired in February of 1988. She has been a resident at the Good Samaritan Center since February of 2003.
Ruth was a life-long active member of Forest Mills United Methodist Church, where she was active in the bible study groups and the United Methodist Women groups serving as treasurer for over 30 years. Her Lord, Savior and family were very important to her. Ruth enjoyed gardening and cooking especially preparing the usual Sunday family dinner.
Survivors include her sons, Roger Vickery and Chuck (Maxine) Bloxham both of Waukon, IA; 5 grandchildren, Nichole, Alycia, Tammy, Jason and Jenny; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen "Tiny" May of Dallas, TX; 2 brothers, Keith (Joan) Ewing of Albany, OR and Kenneth (Marge) Ewing of Waukon, IA. She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Donald and her second husband Keith who died in 2005 and 4 brothers, Willis, Arthur, Charles, Jr. and Harry Ewing.
Honorary casketbearers are her great-grandchildren, Leslie, Peyton, Michael, Katarena, Alexia, Alec, Susan, Spencer, Hannah, Zachary, Connor, Grace, Dylan and Vaughan and her great-great-grandchildren, Abigail and Zachary. Casketbearers are Mark Ewing, Jason Bloxham, John May, Obert Johnson, Jerry Ewing and Lee Stegan.
