--------------
Pioneer Resident Passes Away Yesterday;
Rites On Saturday
--------------
In the death of Mrs. Mary Agnes Kennedy, 83, widow of Michael Kennedy, which occurred yesterday morning about six o'clock in her home on the Locust avenue extension, Fairmont lost one of its most highly esteemed and beloved women. For a period of thirty-five years Mrs. Kennedy has lived on the family home place where her death occurred. Her husband passed away January 31, 1918 [sic].

Mrs. Kennedy had been in failing health in the late years and suffered from heart trouble and complications due to her advanced age. She was able to be about her home and on Christmas Day was down stairs with her family. She was taken ill Sunday and had been since growing weaker, still it was not thought there was any immediate danger. Mrs. Kennedy was conscious until near the end and conversed freely with her family the day previous. She sank steadily Wednesday night and her gentle spirit passed out slowly and peacefully with her loved ones at her bedside.

Mrs. Kennedy was born at Lebanon, N. H. December 12, 1848, and was a daughter of the late Philip and Cecelia Erwin, early settlers of the New England states. She came to Marion county with her parents as a mere child and the family home was established in the vicinity of Downs, in Mannington district. Mrs. Kennedy grew to young womanhood there and after her marriage to Mr. Kennedy they continued their residence in the same locality for several years. Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy and family moved here from Mannington district and bought the farm where they now reside and erected a splendid home which they have since occupied.

The deceased leaves eight children, D. P. Kennedy, Edward F. Kennedy, William M. Kennedy, Joseph and James J. Kennedy, Miss Cecelia Kennedy, all of this city. Mrs. W. F. Burke, of Pittsburgh, and Mrs. B. B. McCuddin [sic], of Ann Arbor, Mich. A daughter, Mrs. Ellen Purcell, died a few years ago. There are twenty-one grandchildren. Three of the grandchildren, Rosemary and Alice Purcell and James Purcell, reside in the Kennedy home.

D. P. and James J. Kennedy are local furniture dealers and W. M. Kennedy is a local attorney.

Mrs. Kennedy was the only sister of the late James L. Erwin, whose family reside on the Country Club road. She was a woman of very high esteem and possessed many beautiful traits of character. Mrs. Kennedy was a devout member of St. Peter's Catholic church and her life was an exemplary Christian one. She was a woman of keen intellect and a great reader, keeping in touch with all current happenings and loved good literature. Mrs. Kennedy recalled many incidents of the Civil war period and often related with interest events that occurred in the stirring war times in this section. Mrs. Kennedy was deeply devoted to her family and during her long years of failing health had been the object of that most tender devotion on the part of her children and their families.

The funeral will take place Saturday morning with services at nine o'clock in St. Peter's Catholic Church. Interment will be made in Holy Cross cemetery.
