W. M. Kennedy Dies at 75

William Michael Kennedy, 75, of 1522 Locust Avenue, a prominent Fairmont attorney for many years, died in Fairmont Emergency Hospital yesterday at 3:30 p. m. He retired from the active practice of law in 1949 due to ill health.

The deceased was born Oct. 10, 1883, in Whetstone near Mannington, son of Michael and Mary Agnes Erwin Kennedy.

He is survived by his wife, Mary R. Hessian [sic] Kennedy; seven daughters, Mrs. William T. (Mary Anne) Devlin, Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Thomas V. (Martha) Hebblethwaite, Lakewood, Calif.; Mrs. William H. (Peggy) Smith, Mullens; Miss Barbara C. Kennedy, and Miss Nancy D. Kennedy, both at home; one son, Richard M. Kennedy, Berkeley Springs; 12 grandchildren. Three sons preceded him in death.

Also surviving are two brothers, David P. Kennedy, Edgemont, and James J. Kennedy, Fairmont. Four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

He graduated from Fairmont Normal School in 1904 and received his L.L.B. from West Virginia School of Law in 1910. He practiced law in Fairmont for 33 years. He was affiliated with Michael Powell, L. T. Eddy, Harry Cronin Sr. and Edward Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy also taught school and was principal for Moundsville High School. At one time, he was Marion County superintendent of schools.

Mr. Kennedy was a member of Pi Kappa Psi fraternity at WVU and a member of the "Mountain." He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Peter's Church and a member of that church. Friends may call at the Ross Funeral Home after 1 p. m. today. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
