Eleanor "Ellie" (Michaels) Bergeron, 82, of 294 Orchard Avenue, Newington, died peacefully at her daughter's home in Storrs on Saturday (June 20, 2009) surrounded by family. She was the beloved wife for 53 years of the late Joseph E. Bergeron.


Born in New Britain, daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth (Tomalonis) Michaels, she was a Newington resident for the past 50 years.


Ellie had a kind heart and a giving spirit and was fiercely proud of her Lithuanian heritage. She was an avid reader and was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit.


A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, she leaves three daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Bill Wood of Lafayette, CA, Shelly and Rick Barnett of Storrs, with whom she made her home for the past year, and Rainy and Tom Mayfield of Chalfont, PA; her five shining stars, grandsons, Scott Wood, Mike and Mark Barnett, Brian and Gavin Mayfield. She also leaves two sisters, Josephine Pankonin of Farmington and Gloria Arcand of Durham; and many treasured nieces and nephews.


Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 183 Church Street, Newington.
Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.
