Caleb was the son of William Dean and Sarah MacDonald.
He married to Jemima Indsley.
He removed with his father to Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, then to Ohio where as a young man he mustered under Elisha Whittlesey, who was then a captain in the War of 1812. He removed then to Fayette County, Pennsylvania, where he spent his life and died aged 53 years, 6 months, and 4 days.
He was a stone mason.
