Life's end

John E. Becker, Early Day Dance Band Organizer, Dead

John E. Becker, 86, lifetime Plymouth county resident, died unexpectedly Friday at Sacred Heart hospital.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic church. Rev. Dean Walker officiated and burial was in Calvary Cemetery under the direction of the Wiltgen-Luedtke funeral home.

Mr. Becker organized a dance band at the age of 14 and was well known in the area for his appearances at old time dances.

He was born Jan. 25, 1880, in America Twp. near Le Mars. He farmed there until he retiring to Le Mars 24 years ago.

He married Ethel Franklin Oct. 10, 1906 in Le Mars.

Surviving are his wife of Le Mars; a daughter, Mrs. Venard Sitzmann of Kingsley; a son, Lee of Le Mars; six grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Kunkel, Alexander, S. D.

Becker-Franklin Wedding

Miss Ethel Franklin and Mr. John P. E. Becker, members of well known families in Plymouth county, were quietly married at the priest's house of St. Joseph church last Wednesday morning. The wedding was in the nature of a surprise to their relatives and friends who although anticipating the event, did not think it would occur so soon. The bride was attended by Miss Margaret Gorman and the groom by his brother, Henry Becker.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Franklin, of Marion township, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Becker, of America township.

The young people left for a visit with friends in South Dakota and on their return will live at the Franklin home this winter and in the spring will go farming on their own account.
