Sarepta Rhodes had been a semi-invalid for the past three years and for two months her condition had been so critical that one of her daughters had been constantly with her, four of them being Mrs. Nellie Rhodes, Tulsa; Mrs. Bertha Roberts, Fort Scott; Mrs. Stella Sturdevant; Kansas City and Mrs. Grace Liggett, Fort Scott. Mrs. Rhodes came to Bourbon county 54 years ago and first lived in Colony, Kansas. The family moved to Fort Scott in 1898. Her husband, Beachum Rhodes died in 1905.
She was also a member of the Women's Relief Corps; Member of the Trainmen Ladies; Music Study Club; an active member of the G.A.R.; Eastern Star and actively involved while her health permitted in the Women's Societies of the Presbyterian and Grace M.E. churches.
Sarepta Rhodes was the daughter of Harvey Johnson and Rhuhamma Lourhamma Sprague Johnson. She was born in Paris, Illinois on November 28, 1848, making her age 82 years, 6 months and 27 days. She was united in marriage at Paris, Illinois to Beachum Rhodes on October 7, 1863. To this union were born eleven children, three being deceased, namely; Louis Rhodes, Ross Rhodes and Mrs. Myrtle Rhodes Latta. Surviving children are: Edmund C. Rhodes, Iola; Milton Rhodes, Kansas City, Missouri; Mrs. Rose Penny, Kansas City, Missouri; Mrs. Stella Sturdevant, Kansas City, Missouri; Mrs. Nellie Schroer, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Mrs. Bertha Roberts, Mrs. Grace Liggett and Allen Rhodes, all of Fort Scott, Kansas. Also 22 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren are left. Mrs. Rhodes was the last of a large family.
