Rev. Roy Otis Collins, Sr. was born in Tennessee to William Thornton Collins and Dannie Mae Johnson. Later, his father moved the family to Harlan County, Kentucky to work in the coal mines. Prior to being called to preach, he was an electrician in the mines as well. He pastored several churches in Kentucky prior to moving his family to Knoxville, TN about 1948, to accept a church there. This was Marble City Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN and he pastored this church for 16 years. The family moved to Western NC after that when he accept pastorate at East Marion Baptist Church in Marion until he retired. After retirement he served as interim pastor for Dysartsville Baptist Church and was preaching there when he passed away. He married Maude Frye in 1935. They had 3 sons, Robert Joseph (Bob), Roy O. Jr. and Donald Lee Collins. They also had 4 grandchildren, Nancy Ellen Collins (1964-2010), Roc Collins, Don Collins and Brigette Collins. Roy Otis Collins received his theology training at Fruitland Bible College.
