MARTIN E. AUSETH Longtime community activist and former Mason County Commissioner Martin Emil Auseth died on Wednesday, November 16, at Saint Peter Hospital from surgery complications. He was 76 years old. Mr. Auseth was born May 6, 1912 in Victoria, British Columbia to Bernt and Ellen (Sivertsen) Auseth. An Agate resident, Mr. Auseth was a member of the Agate Grange, Mason County Pomona Grange and Mason County Historical Society. He served as deputy and special deputy in the state and national Grange organizations. A member of Shelton Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Auseth was also past president of Mason County Fair Board. He held membership in Soil Conservation Service, Shelton Kiwanis, Shelton Elks, American Association of Retired Persons and the Retired Public Employees Council of Washington. In 1976 Mr. Auseth retired from the Mason County Board of Commissioners after 16 years of service. Surviving Mr. Auseth are his wife, Gyneth Auseth of the Agate family home; one son, Martin D. Auseth of Vancouver; two daughters, Neva E. McLemore of Anaheim, California, and Carolynn V. Auseth of Shelton; eight grandchildren, three brothers, Edward Auseth of Shelton, Kenneth Auseth of Olympia and Victor Auseth, also of Shelton; and one sister, Hattie Fuller of Spokane. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 19, at McComb and Batstone Funeral Home with Dr. Ludvig Eskildsen and State Grange officiating. The Agate Grange hosted a friendship gathering. Mr. Auseth was buried at Shelton Memorial Park.
