Gertrude Duane Clark, 82, of Charleston, died Wednesday, August 2, 2006 in a local hospital.

Gertrude was born March 12, 1924 in Charleston, SC, the ninth child of Joseph H. and Mattie Murphy Duane.

She was a lifelong resident of the city and a graduate of Bishop England High School and the College of Charleston. For many years, she worked as personal secretary to Edward Kronsberg, founder of Edward's Department Stores, and later was church secretary at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul.

She was a strong advocate of continuing education, earning two college degrees at the age of 67 and served as a friend and mentor to her young fellow students.

Trudy was an avid writer and member of the S.C. Poetry Society. Her poetry was printed in several local publications.

She was also active in the Nativity Catholic Church and School for many years.

Trudy is survived by two daughters, Mary Clark (Dan) Coy and Katherine Clark; three grandchildren, Erin Coy, Joel Coy and Anna Clark Dudek; and one brother, Walter V. Duane, all of Charleston.

She is predeceased by her husband, Clarence George Clark, four sisters and three brothers.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 4th from 6-8PM with the vigil service beginning at 6PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 150 Wentworth Street, Charleston, SC 29401. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 5th at 11AM at the Church of the Nativity, 1061 Folly Road. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, James Island.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Outreach, 1684 Brownswood Road, Johns Island, SC 29455.
