Robert died on Woodstock Plantation north of present day Greenville, MS. Robert served the Confederacy as a Private in Company D, 1st MS Infantry, State Troops.
Robert owned Tarplay Plantation located at Carter's Point along the Mississippi River north of Greenville. Robert is the brother of William Grayson Carter.
