Eldest son of Robert Wormley Carter and Hebe Smallwood Grayson. They moved from Loudoun Co., VA. to the new State of Kentucky in 1795.

Alfred died after the 1850 census, no census for 1860, and before the 1870 census.

Married Elizabeth Landon Carter, d/o Charles Carter and Ann Beale Carter.

May 1838, Alfred G. Carter purchased 1,591 acres of land for $7,955
December 1850, Alfred G. Carter purchased 646 and 173 acres of land for $8,800

The 7,000 acre Woodstock Plantation, occupying a Mississippi bend in Washington County, had been purchased in the late 1840's by Alfred Grayson Carter: "The land was selected by Mr. Carter on account of its great fertility, because of the transportation facilities afforded by the river, and because its situation [on a natural levy] made it, (at the time) secure from the annual floods." The plantation was adjacent to the Argyle Plantation and the Blanton Plantation.
