Age 101, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on September 22, 1997 in Totowa, NJ. Mrs Garland was born on January 29, 1896 in Clarksville, MI She worked as a Housekeeper in St Edward Catholic Church in Lake Odessa during her later years. She was a member of St Casimir Catholic Church but had been living for the past 9 years with her daughter, Sister Estelle "Mary" at the Little Sisters in Totowa, NJ.
She was preceded in death by her son George Garland, 2 brothers and 4 sisters. Mrs Garland is survived by daughters Rose Sobieski of Hampton, VA, Sister Estelle 'Mary' DeJesus of Totowa, NJ, Margaret "Peg" (Fred) Cook of Lansing. Also surviving are half-brother Ken (Dwila) Hess of Lansing; 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Religious services will be conducted by The Rev Fr William R Lugger at 11:30 am Saturday, September 27, 1997 at St Casimir Catholic Church with interment in St Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 10-11 am on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 140 Shepard Lane, Totowa, NJ.
