DeLEON ABELL, 85
DeLeon Abell, 85, Warren Center, died on Monday, Oct. 20, 1986 at the Montrose (Pa.) General Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past week.
Born Jan. 25, 1901 in Rome, he was the son of Guy Walter and Grace Forbes Abell.
He married the former Bernice Pendleton on April 9, 1925 in Apalachin. She survives at home.
A 61-year resident of Warren Center, Mr. Abell was a lifelong dairy farmer and a rural letter carrier in Warren Township for 30 years, retiring in 1971.
Active in the Methodist Church, he was a Sunday School teacher in Warren Center for over 60 years, a leader of the Methodist Youth Fellowship for more than 30 years and a former Sunday School teacher in Rome. A one-time member of the election board and the former Warren Township School Board, Mr. Abell was a past master of the Rome Grange and had run the Warren Center Cemetery for a number of years.
Also surviving are two daughters: Mrs. Robert (Martha) Dewing, and Mrs. Max (Grace) Dewing, both of Warren Center; two sons: Emerson W. of Warren Center and DeLeon Jr. of San Clemente, Calif.; three brothers: Dr. Guy F. of Rome, Dr. Leonard J. of Pfafftown, N.C. and Walter of Rome; three sisters: Mrs. Keith (Helen) Blair of Rome, Mrs. William (Almyra) Naylor of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. and Mrs. John (Marguerite) Harbachuk of Windson, N.Y.; 20 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, Nichols, tonight from 6-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at his church with the Rev. C. Earle Cowden, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in the Warren Center Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Warren Center United Methodist Church.
