Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend Martha A. Dewing, 87, of Warren Center, Pa. passed away on Jan. 15, 2015. A life-long resident of Warren Center, Martha was born on June 4, 1927, a daughter of DeLeon and Bernice (Pendleton) Abell. She attended school in Warren Center until the 10th grade and was a graduate of Vestal High School. On Oct. 9, 1947, she married Robert E. Dewing, together they stitched a life of memories, raising six children. She enjoyed singing in the choir and served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Martha was a member of the Community Bible Church in Little Meadows. Devoted to her Lord, Martha also worked as a teacher with the Child Evangelism Fellowship program. Many will remember Martha as she served others in the cafeteria at the Warren Center School. Martha enjoyed sewing, baking cakes, crocheting and quilting — she stitched her love into quilts for her children and grandchildren. Her gentle ways and caring heart will be missed by her family, friends and her community.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert on Sept. 17 2012; brother Emerson Abell; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Carol and Paul Darling; brother-in-law Max Dewing; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Paul and Mary Dewing, Betty and Norman Darling.
Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Friday evening, Jan. 23, from 4-7 p.m. at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A funeral service and celebration of a life well lived for Martha will be held on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 10 a.m. at the Community Bible Church in Little Meadows, Pa., with her son, Rev. Donald Dewing, and Pastor Dale Anscheutz, officiating. Interment and prayers of committal will follow in the Coburn-Dewing Cemetery.
