Carlisle Weekly Herald (Carlisle, PA), Friday, November 12, 1869; pg. 3

On Friday morning last, Moses Brocht (sic) of North Middleton township, about two miles from Carlisle, was changing a vicious bull from one stall to another, when the animal turned on him and gored him fearfully in the abdomen, elevated him upon his horns, and threw him some distance from him. As he was about making another charge on the prostrate man, his son, a small boy, succeeded in driving him away. A neighbor, who was passing, assisted the family to remove the wounded man to the house, when his wounds were dressed by a physician. He died on Saturday morning. Mr. B. was an hones, hard working man, and was much respected by his acquaintances.

The Carlisle Volunteer of last week says:

On Friday morning last Moses Brocht (sic), who resides on the north side of the Conodoguinet creek, immediately opposite the reservoir, met with a serious accident, which terminated his life on the following day. He was attempting to chain a vicious bull, when the animal turned upon him furiously, goring him in the abdomen and letting out a portion of the bowels. Medical aid was summoned at once, but his injuries were of such a character that the physicians pronounced his case hopeless. He lingered until Saturday, when he expired. Mr. Brocht (sic) was an honest, thrifty, hard-working man, much respected by all who knew him.
