A Noble Woman.
DEATH OF MRS. ADALINE HANNA CONN LAST NIGHT.
Passes Peacefully Away, Closing a Life of Many Kind Deeds and Christian Motherly Devotion - A Woman of Beautiful Traits of Character.
__Another home is suddenly clouded with a great grief. Robert Conn and his children, corner of First street and Thirteenth avenue West, are mourning the untimely death of a true wife and loving mother. Mrs. Conn was feeling quite well on Thursday evening, as she retired, but about midnight she was visited by a severe stroke of paralysis. Part of the time yesterday she was conscious, but there was no rally such as was hoped for, and at 11 o'clock last evening she passed peacefully away.
__Mrs. Adaline Hanna Conn was born in Holmes county, Ohio, Aug. 18, 1841 and so was in her fifty-fourth year. She came with her parents to Iowa in 1854, living for some years at Iowa City. She was married to Robert Conn Sept. 2(0/9?), 1858, and the earlier married life was spent in and near Marengo. Something of the efficient, heroic character of Mrs. Conn is apparent when for three years of the war she managed a large farm, cared for three little boys and kept her loyal husband at the front constantly informed of the home affairs by letters bedewed with her tears. Her interests in the soldiers never slagged, and at her death she was senior vice president of the Woman's Relief Corps of this city. The family came to this city from Blairstown about four years ago, Mr. Conn being engaged in merchandise there and here entering the real estate business.
__The family life for thirty-seven years has been an exceptionally happy one. From the union there was born nine children, two of them dying in infancy. J. W. (James W.) and A. H. (Andrew H.) Conn are living in this city: J. T. (John?) is county auditor of O'Brien county: Bertha and Blanche are successful teachers in our city schools: Frank is a student in the State university at Iowa City and Rex is a senior in the high school here. It means a great vacancy, the mother's empty chair in this home circle. She was a most devoted and loving keeper of the home and the kindest of neighbors.
__She united with the Methodist church at Marengo, Iowa in 1858. At Blairstown about 1876 she entered the church of her childhood training, the Presbyterian, and transferred her membership to the Second Presbyterian church of this city in 1891. She has been a sincere and consistant christian and a true woman in every relation in life.
__The funeral service will be held from the house, corner of Thirteenth avenue and First steet West, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. J. K. Fowler, officiating.
