JOHNSON CITY - Benny Joe (Joey) Lawson Jr., 35, born on Sept. 5, 1970 in Kingsport, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday (Feb. 5, 2006) in his sleep.

He had spent the majority of his life in Church Hill. Joey attended Volunteer Comprehensive High School. He worked as a brick mason for local contractors and also in Texas and Florida.

He enjoyed working with his father out-of-state on many occasions. He enjoyed fishing and was of the Baptist faith.

Joey was preceded in death by his grandfather, Rev. Sturm Lawson; and his uncles, Randy Chapman and Roy Lawson.

Benny (Joey) Lawson Jr. is survived by the mothers of his children; two sons, Matthew John Lawson, Church Hill and Benny Joe Lawson III, Johnson City; his mother, Judy Lawson, Kingsport; his father and stepmother, Benny Joe Lawson Sr. and Patsy Lawson; his grandmothers, Blanche Sally, Kingsport, Gladys Ilene Lawson, Mount Carmel; two sisters, Tammy Barlow and her husband, Tim, Kingsport and Loretta Tipton and her husband, Chad, Church Hill; a special friend, Amber Miller, Johnson City; along with several uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Carter Trent Funeral Homes of Church Hill or friends and family may call anytime at his mother's residence, Judy Lawson, 1456 Prospect Drive, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Willie Neeley officiating.

Music will be provided by the Tipton Family.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Morning Star Church Cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
