CHURCH HILL - Benny Joe (BJ) Lawson, Sr., 60, of Church Hill, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday evening (June 10, 2007) at his residence following a lengthy illness.

He was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County. Mr. Lawson was the owner of B.J. Lawson Sandblasting & Painting Company until his illness led him to early retirement. He traveled 49 states and enjoyed his work. Benny was saved on July 27, 2004 and attended Christian Bend Freewill Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his son, Benny Joe "Joey" Lawson, Jr.; his father, Rev. Sturm Lawson; a brother, Roy Lawson.

Benny Lawson, Sr. is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Patsy Lawson (of the home); daughters, Tammy Barlow and her husband, Tim (Kingsport), Loretta Tipton and her husband, Chad (Church Hill); eight grandchildren, Matthew Lawson, Daniel Barlow, Tristan Barlow, Tyler Barlow, Mikayla Tipton, Isaac Tipton, Benny Joe Lawson III and Hannah Lawson; his mother, Gladys Ilene Lawson (Mount Carmel); brothers, John Lawson and Dwayne Lawson (both of Mount Carmel); sisters, Ruby Sizemore, Kathy Beasley and her husband, Jim (both of Rogersville); several nieces and nephews; along with a special cousin, Charles Manis.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home of Church Hill.

A funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Willie Neeley officiating.

The Tipton Family will provide music.

The graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Morning Star Church Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Carter-Trent Funeral Home of Church Hill is serving the Lawson family.
