MURPHY Sister Kathleen SNDdeN (Sister Magdalen Cecilia) a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur for sixty-eight years, died peacefully in Oakland, California on December 26, 2001. She was the loving daughter of Timothy and Minnie Murphy (dec.) of San Mateo, sister of Eileen Giannini of Half Moon Bay; Betty Murphy of San Mateo; Bill Murphy of San Mateo; Mary Brady of San Francisco and John Murphy of San Carlos. An elementary school teacher, musician and artists, she taught in Notre Dame Schools in Santa Barbara, San Jose, Los Angeles, Chico, Salinas, Redwood City, Des Moines and Seahurst, Washington. After 44 years of full-time teaching, Sister retired to teach art and music and tutor children and adults at St. Columbkille Elementary in Los Angeles. Sister Kathleen retired to Notre Dame Villa in Saratoga in 1993, and moved to Mercy Care Center in Oakland in 1998. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on January 2 at 10:30 am at Mercy Care Center, 3431 Foothill Blvd., in Oakland, followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery Colma.
