The death angel visited the home of Mr and Mrs Liken Adkins on the 3rd day of May and took Mrs Adkins loving mother, Mary Susan Adkins, who was born May 3,1844 and being at the time of her death 83 years, 11 months and 24 days of age. She was born in Monroe County, and was a daughter of Archibald and Lannie Egnor. They moved to this county when she was very small. She was united in marriage to Golsberry Adkins at the age of 18 years and to this union five children were born.
She was a member of the Misssionary Church, a devoted christian for life and leaves a type of life that is worthy of emulation and following. Her dispositon was cheerful and sunn and she always tried to scatter roses in the pathway of others. We all love her for the good woman she was. In sickness and death and in time of distress, she was ready and willing to lend a helping hand. She had been in poor health since September with diseases attendant to old age. Her suffering was great. Amidst all of her suffering she praised God and was only waiting for the Lords message, come up higher. The message she left to her children and grand-children was, Be Good.
Her husband and one daughter, Lannie Catherine, preceded her to the grave several years ago. Surviving are two sons. G.B. Adkins of Huntington, and Ira Adkins, two daugters, Victoria and Viola Adkins, all of Sias; one brother, Rev. S. A. Egnor of Morrisvale; five step-sons, Elliott Adkins of Sias, Hiram Adkins of Robinette, Lee and Andrew Lawson of Kanawha County and Anty Lawson of the West, and one step-daughter, Valeria; 18 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, and a host of other sorrowing relatives and friends. Her remains were laid to rest in the Golsberry cemetery May 5. Rev Conner and E I Adkins attend the burial services.

You are gone but not forgotten
Never shall you memory fade
And I know you are happy
In your everlasting home
Here is the grave
Where mother is laid
Sweet is the memory
That never shall fade
Flowers may wither
Leaves fade and die
And we hope to meet you
In the sweet by and by
