John George Clodfelter was the fourth of twelve known children of John George Gladfelter (became Clodfelter) Sr. (1751-1826) & Catharine Zinc (became Sink) Clodfelter (1755-1826) who married 08 Sep 1771 at Rowan (now Davidson) County, North Carolina.

John had a hat shop in North Carolina. He moved his family to the vicinity of the Moravian community of West Salem, Edwards County, Illinois in 1837. He owned a large farm in Illinois.

John first married to Marie Magdalena "Mary Polly" Walk (1783-1822) on 20 Oct 1803 at Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. John and Mary were the parents of six n known children, four boys and two girls. All six children lived to maturity. The six known children are namely:

1. Jesse Clodfelter (1804-1870)
2. Hannah Elizabeth Clodfelter Craver (1807-1881)
4. Kelen Clodfelter (1812-1881)
5. Philip Clodfelter (1813-1888)
6. Nancy Clodfelter Deischer (1816-1891)
7. Jeremiah Clodfelter (1818-1890)

Some records show Fanny Clodfelter Hedrick (1810-1889) as a child of this family, but I don't feel there is sufficient evidence to prove this.

The family lived in the vicinity of the Moravian community of Friedberg, then on the border of Stokes and Rowan Counties, North Carolina, but presently on the border of Forsyth and Davidson County, North Carolina.

After Mary died, John remarried to Mary's widowed elder sister, Johanna (went by Hannah) Walk Mock (1772-1853) on 17 Feb 1824 at Friedberg, Rowan (now Davidson) County, North Carolina. Hannah had no children by either of her husbands.

John is the 5th great grand uncle of Brent Gillespie, who originally created this memorial.

Links to John's parents, both of his known wives, all of his six known children and eight of his eleven known siblings are included below.
