BEARD, Norine, Mrs. of Thorndale. Age 70. Died 8/8/1969 (Friday) enroute to a Taylor hospital after becoming ill at her home. Services held in Condra Memorial Chapel, Taylor. Burial in Taylor City Cemetery. Rev. C.P. Hankins, Minister of First Christian Church, Taylor officiated.

BORN Norine Elizabeth Cowen, daughter of M/M. D.W. Cowen, on 6/21/1899 near Thrall in Williamson Co. Her family moved to Thorndale when she was a child and she lived in the Thorndale area all her life. Married Thomas W. Beard 4/24/1921 in Thorndale. Graduated from Thorndale High School. Taught school briefly in Pleasant Hill Community south of Thorndale before her marriage. She joined the staff of "The Champion" (newspaper) in 1952 and was named editor that next year, a position she held until her death. Active member of the First Christian Church of Thorndale. Charter member of Thorndale posts of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Member of Rockdale Chapter No. 23, Order of the Eastern Star. She belonged to many community organizations including Chamber of Commerce, Thorndale Alumni Asso.

Preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Henry Cowen and Sam Cowen, also a grandson, Samuel E. Harper.

SURVIVORS: Husband, Thomas W. Beard, Sr. of Thorndale; son, Thomas W. Beard, Jr. of Groves; daughter, Mrs. Nettie Dee Harper of Murfreesboro, TN.; 2 brothers, Jack Cowen of Austin and Gus Cowen of Thorndale; sister, Mrs. Joe Norman of Thorndale; 4 grandchildren, Charles T. Harper, Jr. of Ft.Worth; Stephen Harper and Melissa Harper, both of Murfreesboro and Thomas W. Beard, III, of Groves; great-granddaughter, Sheila Harper of Ft.Worth; numerous nieces and nephews.
