ALEXANDRIA — Mildred M. (Frazier) Pierce, 97, died April 13, 2007, at St. John's Medical Center in Anderson, after a brief illness.

She was born Dec. 4, 1909, in Gilman, Ind., the daughter of Joseph and Nancy (McKowen) Frazier. She resided in the Alexandria area her entire life.

Mildred was a graduate of Alexandria High School, Class of 1927.

She had worked at the A&P Grocery, Morrison's 5&10 and the original Dairy-Delite, all formerly of Alexandria. Most recently she had worked at the Rag Doll Fabric Shop, formerly of Anderson. She was active on the family farm for a number of years.

Mildred was a former member of the Vermillion Christian Church of rural Alexandria and was currently a member of the Alexandria First Christian Church. She had been active in the Madison County Farm Bureau. Most recently, she and her daughter participated in the visiting dog program, where they took their pets into area nursing homes. Mildred was well known in the area as an excellent cook.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Pierce of Alexandria; nephew, Gene (Carolyn) Shinabarger of Anderson; seven great-nieces and great-nephews; and several cousins on the Pierce side of her family.

Mildred was preceded in death by her father in 1967; her mother in 1988; brother, Everett Frazier in 1974; and her husband of 57 years, Glen B. Pierce, who died Oct. 4, 1995.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, officiated by Pastor Sharon Lang of the First Christian Church in Alexandria. Interment will follow at Park View Cemetery, Alexandria.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
