PFAFFTOWN - Hillus "Tip" Walton Conrad Sr., 83, of Pfafftown passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Forsyth County on Sept. 19, 1922, to John Joseph Conrad Sr. and Pearl Beroth Conrad. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 23 years of service as a security guard. Tip loved his family, the outdoors and his vegetable and flower gardens. The name Conrad Sawmill Road reflected the family business of which generations have been proud. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Edna Hicks and Lula Haga; and his wife of 64 years, Mildred Vestal Conrad, who died in November 2005. Surviving are a son, Hillus W. Conrad Jr., and wife Peggy of Kernersville; a daughter, Linda Marshall, and husband Reggie of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Stephen Conrad and Amber Blevins; two great-grandchildren, Justin and Jessica Stroot; two brothers, John J. Conrad Jr. of Pfafftown and Richard E. Conrad of Winston-Salem; and two sisters, Julia Windsor of Winston-Salem and Lillie Hicks of Lewisville. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 1, at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, June 30, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to express their thanks to neighbors Pat and Eddie Boggs and sons for their loving care and support.
