Garrel Burgoon was born in Gas City Indiana the son of Gipson Burgoon and Martha Llewellyn. In 1923 he married Lillian Webster. They were the parents of daughters,Patricia Kay and Martha Mae and one son Garrell Jr.
Garrell served as Lawrence County IL Sheriff from 1950 to 1954 and as a state representative to the Illinois Congress for twelve years during the 1960's. Garrel was a veteran of WWI and WWII and held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserves.
