Floyd is the son of Gibson Delsell Burgoon and Martha Hannah Llewellyn. He married Jennie Lavina Drake on August 5, 1912. When he registered for WWI, he stated his occupation was painter & paperhanger. He was the father of three daughters and one stillborn son. He and his wife lived in Petrolia, IL.

In 1920 while working on an oil tank, the tank collapsed and he was covered in an avalanche of oil and water and taken to the hospital in Vincennes IN where he died.
